I’m Alex, a mechanical engineering senior at Tufts. I like making things that work, figuring out why they don’t, and helping other people build.

In Progress: Smart Motor for Educational Robotics

My four-person senior design team is developing a smart motor for SAM Labs. Prototype 1 combines a geared motor, adjustable friction clutch, and an output encoder as we work toward wireless position and speed control.

Autonomous Shop Vac for Nolop

As part of a three-person internship team, I led the drivetrain work for a Ryobi shop-vac conversion, focusing on custom wheel hubs, timing belts, motor mounts, and adjustable belt tensioning for autonomous woodshop cleaning.

Building a Bugle

I designed and FDM-printed a playable bugle, improved its modular joints and seals, then tested three interchangeable bell sizes across 45 recordings to explore how geometry affects its sound.

A little independence, by design.

The Detangulator 5000: an assistive device designed to help a client with cerebral palsy apply hair detangler independently, using improved positioning and low-force actuation.

A balancing act. Literally.

A Raspberry Pi-controlled robot that measures an unknown payload and places it to balance a seesaw with another robot. Mechanical design, sensing, and controls, all working together.

Always something else on the workbench.
